If you're looking for a quiet garage door opener, belt-drive models are an excellent choice. Our ½ horsepower models operate very smoothly, and our DC motor versions are even quieter. While chain-drive openers are known for their durability, they do tend to be louder. However, if noise is a concern, you can still get a quieter operation by choosing a ¾ horsepower or a DC chain-drive motor.

In general, a 1/2 HP opener is more than enough to lift most standard doors. The springs are what do the lifting of your garage door and the opener is there to only gently assist it in its process. If your door is heavier, your springs will be stronger. However, if you have a solid wood or oversized door, you may choose to go with a stronger motor or DC motor.

Trying to choose between a belt-drive and a chain-drive garage door opener? Both are great options, and the best choice for you depends on what you're looking for. Chain-drive openers are typically more affordable, yet still very durable and were originally built for frequent use and heavy lifts. Belt drive openers are extremely durable as well and will also offer a quieter operation and advanced features, but may cost a little more. If you have minimal ceiling space or want to keep your ceiling clear, a jackshaft opener may be perfect for you!

Yes! Very important to note. The quality of garage door openers can vary significantly. Most openers that are sold in retail stores will be builder’s grade openers. We partner with brands such as LiftMaster Professional that are known for their excellent durability and longevity. They have a solid-steel rail that go from the opener to the door vs a pieced-together rail, and these openers will have many upgrades as well in technology and durability. Important to note: if a LiftMaster is found online, it most commonly will not come with the rail or installation. LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers are known for lasting a very long time in comparison to many other brands.

Our ultimate goal is always to repair your garage door opener before considering replacement. However, there are times when replacement may make more sense for you. Below are some reasons you may replace vs repair:

• You want to upgrade to a newer model with more advanced technology or up-to-date safety features

• Your current motor is quite old and may not have much longer in its lifespan and putting money into repairs doesn’t feel right

• The manufacturer does not still make replacement parts

• Cost for repair outweighs the cost for replacement

• You installed a new garage door that requires a stronger motor or different drive type

Battery backup openers are a very popular choice, and for good reason! They offer a number of key benefits that provide convenience and peace of mind during a power outage. Here’s why a battery backup unit may be the choice for you:

• Uninterrupted Access: If the power goes out, the battery backup will kick in and allow you to continue opening and closing your garage door as normal. This means, if your power has gone out when you are gone, the opener will still open the door when you get home.

• Preventing Reprogramming Issues: Power outages can sometimes cause the opener to reset, wiping out all the programmed codes to your vehicles, remotes, and keypad. Yes, absolutely! If your car is equipped with the HomeLink® feature, we can program your new automatic door opener to the buttons in your vehicle. You may then open and close your door without needing a separate remote.

We can definitely install an opener that you have purchased elsewhere. However, we strongly recommend our openers for a couple of reasons.

1. The cost will come out to about the same by the time you purchase the opener and then pay to have it installed.

2. Our openers are Professional grade, known for durability, longevity, and solid-piece rails that go from the opener to the door (most models found elsewhere either have a pieced-together rail or no new rail at all.)

3. When we install our own product, the warranty on parts and labor will be much longer.
